Cardeno C is and continues to be one of my favorite authors. I always maintain that his delightful books are "comfort food for the brain". When I got Rough Edges, I knew that I would have the pleasure that I derive from eating my favorite comfort foods. This fabulous book begins with Kyle Potter and Brent Haralson verbally jousting over matters of no importance. The two of them on the surface are complete opposites. Kyle comes from an impoverished family and worked his way up to a prestigious job on a Wall Street type financial firm. He is always formally dressed in a suit even when visiting a gay bar. Brent comes from a very wealthy family and has a huge bankroll that allows his to live a privileged life without working. Because Kyle worked so hard to get to where he is, he disparages Brent for being lazy. The reality is that both Kyle and Brent, who are openly gay, have a crush on each other which Brent would like to turn into a real relationship but Kyle resists until his world implodes and he is forced to accept Brent's invitation to live in Brent's house. At this point, this wonderful story becomes a love affair despite Kyle's resistance to Brent's advances. Slowly but certainly the two of them head down the road to an HEA. What I particularly like about Cardeno's plot in this engaging book is a lack of miscommunication leading to despair as is so often the plot in this M/M erotic romance genre. In addition, Cardeno knows how to write a brilliant sex scene that is sure to get your blood pressure up along with other things. You are in for a spectacular treat which you must not miss.Product details

Another fun light short story by Cardeno C. to help chase the end of winter blues away. This is a wonderful story to snuggle up on your comfy couch and escape for a couple of hours. I always enjoy Cardeno’s short stories to help me get back to my happy place. Rough Edges, I am happy to say did the trick. Set in sunny Los Angeles this story is about two men, pride, and an undeniable attraction. The plot takes us to a place in Kyle’s life where everything is finally coming together. After putting himself through college he has his perfect job and making decent money. Enough to be able to put a down payment on a place of his own. A far cry from the trailer park that he grew up in. So what if he works so much that he has no social life. With friends like Brent, who needs friendships. Brent is well off. Born with that silver spoon in his mouth. That isn’t the worst part. Brent is lazy. He doesn’t work, he does nothing worthwhile, but he is damn attractive. Like water and oil, they just don’t mix. Brent, on the other hand, sees something in Kyle worth pushing for. When Kyle’s life starts to implode, Brent is the one to help him pick up the pieces. Slowly Kyle sees a different side of Brent and he can’t stop the attraction from taking off. The chemistry starts off icy but builds to a hard and fast burn. This is a short story that moves quickly. I think I finished this story in less than an hour. I didn’t want to stop reading until I got what I came for. A fabulous happy ever after ending. Even though this is a short story there was strong character development letting us share the story with the characters and growing attached with both of them.

I really liked this book! I read the blurb and was going to buy it but thought, "Maybe after I get through some of my book backlog." Then a little later I realized I have this story but it's in the anthology, "It Was Always You."
Kyle has struggled for everything in his life. He's a bit resentful of the fact that Brent hasn't had to work for anything. But Kyle does a bit of assuming and he doesn't really have Brent pegged like he thinks he does. Brent accepts Kyle's assessments of him as factual and doesn't get too bothered. What he does, though, is continue to try to be a friend to Kyle. When Kyle is put into a position where he has to accept some help from Brent, the story becomes so incredibly cute and sweet. I love how Kyle allowed himself to become a little vulnerable with Brent and how Brent let his nurturing side take care of Kyle. Sweetest little HEA. So glad I found this book!
It was very short and sweet. I am use to much more in-depth books from Cardeno C.
Phenomenal! I absolutely loved Kyle and Brent and I absolutely loved this book. The book contains good writing, solid editing, fun/funny, witty characters and ultimately lots of love & romance.
Wonderful story! Cardeno is indeed a romantic, and he writes so well, always with a happy ending. However, it sometimes seems like that won't happen, and Rough Edges made me wonder, but I was not disappointed. In fact, the ending was even better than I could imagine!
It's no secret how much I love C. Cardeno's books. They are amazing and I look forward to each and everyone. This one hit me hard.
This book is about two things unconditional love and empathy.
Most readers probably disliked Kyle, but I didn't. The old adage of "walk a mile in my shoes" screams loudly. Kyle would take two steps forward and get shoved five steps back. Brent was born into privilege and never had to fight for anything.
I enjoyed the banter between the two. It made the falling in love part so much more real. Neither could understand the other's situation and it takes a setback to push the two together. They start to understand each other and it is beautiful.
Call me soft or listening to "Helium" by Sia on repeat, but this book really hit home for me. I identified with Kyle and the struggle was real. Brent and Kyle together was magical. This is a must read. 5 stars
